MAGNETIC ISLAND

The Slowpoke: MAGNETIC ISLAND The Slowpoke: MAGNETIC ISLAND

Sometimes all you need in the world is a little nook. A space to relax, walk from a swim to a meal – and back again, and a spot to sit around for a read, a laugh, or a chat. When it comes to escapes in this sunny country, Arthur Bay on Magnetic Island knows all about that quiet nook.

Tropical and unspoilt, Arthur Bay is home to just one place to stay, The Beach House – big enough with four bedrooms for that annual family or friends get together – making this quiet cove your very own personal beach for most hours of the day.

Magnetic Island is just 8km and a quick car or passenger ferry trip from Townsville. The small 52km2 island lies within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is lined with plenty of calm blue bays and reefs, while the centre of the island – and Arthur Bay itself – is occupied by national park filled with granite boulders, hoop pines and eucalpyt forest (which are home to one of the most northern, and healthiest colonies of koalas in Australia).

A long weekend is occupied well here with family or friends. The short walk from the house to the beach is an easy one with an Esky and a snack platter or two. And after hours whiled away, only a short wander back for an afternoon beer on the balcony overlooking the bay. Eat, walk, drink, swim, laugh. Is there anything more we really need?
